All About
Takoma Softball
Takoma Softball started as a 3-team division of
Takoma Park Babe Ruth Baseball in 1997. We have grown into a
12 team League with our own commissioner and Board of
Directors.
About 175 girls play in our "rec" league. We also sponsor
a tournament program (Takoma Fire) and are associated with Takoma
Softball Camp.
Takoma Softball operates under the umbrella of Takoma Park Silver Spring
Babe Ruth League (TPSSBRL) but we manage most of our affairs
independently. We have had our share of successes and growing pains, but
we are still hanging in there, learning from our experiences and your
input to create a stronger league for the girls.
The mission of Takoma Softball:
Takoma Softball aims to provide community-based playing
and training opportunities to recreational players ages 7 through 14 on
local Takoma Park and Silver Spring fields. Takoma Softball also offers
winter and spring skills clinics in cooperation with Montgomery Blair
High School Softball Program and Columbia Union College Softball.
Program goals include:
Teaching
skills to the girls in clinics and while they play games in an
atmosphere of fun so that they will love softball.
Providing professional umpires for
all Seniors games.
Providing opportunities for all girls to
compete at either "rec" level (the current teams play rec) or at
"select" level (which would include more intensive training and
opportunities to play in tournaments, especially when the rec season is
over).
More opportunities for
coaches to improve their coaching skills
Better communications with parents!
